Every Year approximately 300 people in mental health crisis are involuntarily committed to Idaho's State Hospital North (SHN) in Orofino. The hospital's capacity is 55 patients. The average stay is 40 to 70 days. Many people arrive at SHN without personal belongings, family, or financial support.
Giving care and comfort to SHN patients provides hope to support recovery and eases their transition back into communities upon discharge.
NAMI Far North is a Conduit of Care. In coordination with hospital staff, NAMI Far North purchases underwear and collects other donated items such as toiletries, lap quilts, pillowcases, winter clothing, small artwork, yarn, fabric, and other craft supplies for SHN patients. You can help.
